“Tropical Aquatic Biodiversity from Mountain to the Sea:
Emphasis on Blue Carbon”

The Department of Aquatic Resources Management, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, IPB University has organized the successful summer course six times to date, in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2019, 2021, and 2022. These courses were held in collaboration with other faculties within the IPB University scope as well as independently. The most recent summer course was “The International Summer Course: Exploring Tropical Aquatic Biodiversity from Highland To Ocean (H2O),” which was attended by students and lecturers from Malaysia, Japan, Bangladesh, Philippines, India, Taiwan, Thailand, and Indonesia.
Building on the success of the previous summer courses, the Department of Aquatic Resources Management plans to organize the H2O 2024 summer course in collaboration with PKSPL IPB in 2024. The theme of the course will be:
The primary objective of the H2O 2024 summer course is to increase the quantity of inbound foreign lecturers and students in the Department of Aquatic Resources Management and to enhance opportunities for international research and academic collaboration among various participating universities (both lecturers and students). The benefits of this activity include promoting IPB and the Department of Aquatic Resources Management in hosting international programs. The outcome of the summer course will be an increase in the number of inbound foreign students and lecturers in the Department of Aquatic Resources Management.
The summer course H2O 2024 will take place from July 22, 2024, to July 31, 2024. The course will be conducted in a hybrid format with a focus on the biology and ecology of coral reefs, mangroves, seagrass, intertidal biota, turtles, fish, plankton, benthos in freshwater, marine, and small island waters. Additionally, the course will address the issue of blue carbon, providing a new experience for participants. The summer course is equivalent to a 3-credit course. Students who participate in this summer course will receive a transcript for the IPB 301 course.
